Council extended, as you were informed in Sir W. J. Gascoigne's Despatch No. 242 of the 9th. June, till the 24th. September. On that date, therefore, his temporary seat on Executive Council becane vacant, and Mr. Sharp then held his seat not during the absence of Mr. Whitehead but during the absence of
Sir Paul Chater. My Despatch No. 508 of the 15th. November last was therefore written under a misapprehension, as by the terms of his appointment Mr. Sharp vacated his seat at the return of Sir Paul Chater on the 23rd. December last. I enclose a copy of the Colonial Secretary's letter of 7th. June, 1902, in which Mr. Sharp was offered the appointment vice Mr. Whitehead who in turn had been appointed vice Sir Paul Chater; and which stated that the appointment would probably hold good until the return of Sir Paul Chater. Mr.- Sharp remains, of course, a substantive member of Legislative
Council.
5.
I return herewith His Majesty's Warrant
transmitted under cover of your Despatch under reference.
I have the honour to be,
sir,
Your most obedient
Humble servant,
Armany, anahe
Governor, &c..
